A screenplay set against the backdrop of a fantasy football league is a wild detour from the millions of words I’ve written over 35+ years as a journalist and communications professional — so why did I do it?

Simple: write what you know.

I’ve been a diehard Raiders fan since 1967, and I started playing fantasy football back when “stats day” meant studying a newspaper, not refreshing an app. Over the decades, I’ve traded jabs and juggled lineups with dozens of characters — many of whom unknowingly inspired the ones you’ll meet in Don’t Lose Hope.

But I didn’t want to just write a show for fantasy football fanatics.
I wanted to create something bigger.

So I set out to blend the drama of competition with the dynamics of modern life — aging, marriage, gender roles, family illness, and what happens when we bet more than just money… when we bet our futures.

Yes, it’s funny. (How could it not be with this group of people?)
But beneath the humor, Don’t Lose Hope is a story with heart — one that shows how life’s messiest moments often bring us closer together.
